Just signed up with AGL on the strength of their 15% discount. Their usage rates were the same as Lumo. (whose best offer was 11% discount) The guy on the end of the phone promised that if discounts increase in the coming months/ years that they (AGL) will match it. But you have to ask for it. Ahem! Watch this space.

Since the State Labor government did the dirty on South Australians we have been customers of AGL. One hears many things to the detriment of this rip-off group but my main reason for discontent is the lack of communication with customers. Apart from the usual three-monthly price increase one is not told anything. I now discover, having been a customer all the years that I have, that I am not on any contract so am paying premium prices without any discounts. The company could have told me this but no, it makes more sense for them to rip me off to the tune of nearly $500 a year extra - as if they are not charging enough for their "service" anyway. Making a rough calculation it seems that I could have been better off to the tune of around$3,000 or so over the period since my contract, if any, expired! Problem is can it be worth changing over to another provider or is it a case of the devil you know? I guess the bottom line always rules even for thieves.

I've been with AGL for a number of years. Although their customer service wasn't the greatest, they always eventually sorted out any concern I had raised about my bill. BUT TO RECEIVE A LETTER YESTERDAY (NEVER MENTIONED THE CARBON TAX) TO SAY I WILL NOW BE PAYING AN EXTRA $7.00 PER WEEK IS TOTALLY INSANE. I AM 55 YEARS OF AGE, LIVE ON MY OWN, TRYING TO GAIN EMPLOYMENT. HOW DOES ONE LIVE ON $486.00 PER FORTNIGHT??? I'M ALREAYD ON A BILL SMOOTHING SYSTEM WITH AGL WHICH IS ALREADY EXPENSIVE ENOUGH OUT OF WHAT I RECEIVE. I'M AT A LOSS TO KNOW WHY IT'S GONE UP SO MUCH. I DON'T HAVE A MICROWAVE, DRYER, DISHWASHER. AM I GOING TO RECEIVE ANOTHER LETTER SHORTLY TO ADVISE ME THAT THE RATES HAVE GONE UP AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE CARBON TAX????? GOD I HOPE NOT. I WILL BE CHANGING PROVIDERS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. TOTALLY DISGUSTED.

Well, I must say this site has been useful in TRYING to sort the wood from the trees, but at the end of the day, I have made a decision to stick with the devil I know... AGL. Yes, They have an extra payment in SUMMER (Why do they get away with it???) but it was only on making a call to compare with LUMO that they offerred the 12% discount instead of the 7% I have. All in all, it has taken me several hours to sort it out, but will stay with AGL. It would only be a saving of around $2 per week if I change, and I don't want any hastle in a transfer, or the monthly payments required by LUMO.

I opened an account with AGL. The first correspondence I received (only a few weeks later) was a threat to cut off my power even though I had not yet received an account. They accused me of moving into my property without telling them and using their power without an account. I phoned them and they found they had all the relevant records and apologised profusely and told me it was fixed. I have now received another letter headed "Dear Customer" and they have this speil about how I haven't let them know blah blah blah. I have just gone through the whole telephone explanation again (they have the records of the last time as well as the initial setting up of the account). They now tell me that they have issued me with a new account number but I have paid their bill against some other number allocated to "Dear Customer" so I look forward to the prospects of that becoming an issue now. I am now trawling through all the other suppliers as I definitely can't deal with this inefficiency and the insulting letters.
