Aurora Energy is a Tasmanian electricity distributor and a retailer of gas and electricity to consumers and businesses. They also hold licences to supply electricity in five other States and Territories of Australia. Aurora Energy is currently the only retailer permitted to supply electricity to household customers, although the Government is expected to make a decision on the introduction of full retail competition in electricity in 2010. Most of Tasmania's electricity is generated from renewable hydro electricity schemes.

Aurora Energy is owned by the Government of Tasmania and is accountable to the Minister for Energy and the Treasurer. They generate revenue of over $800 million each year and employ over 1100 staff.
