company overview
Integral Energy was originally set up 50 years ago to deliver electricity to Western Sydney and the Illawarra region of New South Wales. It was the second largest state-owned energy corporation in NSW, distributing electricity to 2.1 million people in NSW.
Integral Energy supported a number of environmental and social areas that were related to the energy industry. For example, Integral was helping schools in NSW reduce their carbon emissions through the Solar in Schools program. This project, which was jointly funded by Integral, the NSW Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability and the NSW Department of Education and Training, simultaneously installed power systems in participating schools while teaching children about the importance of reducing the greenhouse gas excise.
Integral Energy was owned by the NSW Government until March 2011 when the retail part of the business, including the Integral Energy brand, was acquired by Origin Energy. The distribution network part of the business was retained by the NSW Government and was rebranded Endeavour Energy. Integral Energy has been maintained as a separate brand but it is expected that it will be rolled fully into Origin Energy over the next 12 to 24 months.
