The parent company of Red Energy is Snowy Hydro Limited, which is a major provider of hydro electricity. Snowy Hydro Limited produces around 74% of all the energy in the National Electricity Market generated from renewable sources.

In Victoria & South Australia, Red Energy promises customers that for every unit of electricity they buy from Red – Snowy Hydro Limited will match that by generating one unit of electricity from a renewable source. This electricity is not GreenPower accredited because it comes from sources that were built before January 1997. However, Red Energy also offers a 100% GreenPower accredited electricity product for customers that wish to upgrade.
