company overview
In March 2011 TRUenergy completed its acquisition of the retail business of Energy Australia from the the NSW Government. From August 2012 TRUenergy changed its name to Energy Australia. The information below has been kept for historical reasons. For information about the new Energy Australia please refer to their dedicated page here.
TRUenergy was a major electricity and gas generator and supplier, servicing 1.2 million homes and businesses in Australia and employing over 1000 staff. They managed a range of energy assets including electricity generation, energy contracts management and trading, gas storage and retail energy services. TRUenergy operated power stations in the LaTrobe Valley (Yallourn) in Victoria, in Jamestown (Hallett) in South Australia and near Wollongong in NSW (Tallawarra). It also operated the Iona Gas Plant near Port Campbell in Victoria.
TRUenergy was owned by China Light and Power, which is based in Hong Kong and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Prior to the acquisition by CLP, the company was called TXU. TXU was an American company and in 2005 they sold their Australian business in two parts. The retailing and generation part of the business is now TRUenergy whilst the distribution part of the business was sold to Singapore Power and is called SP AusNet.
