getting connected

how do you get a new gas or electricity connection to your home?

You must either apply to the distributor that provides the electricity or natural gas in your area or, if you have chosen your energy supplier, they can arrange the connection on your behalf. Please note that at least 20 business days' notice is usually required for new connections.

what happens if you have a gas cut?

You should contact your gas distributor. They are responsible for the quality and reliability of your gas service. You can view the gas distributors in your State or Territory here. If you do not know which one to call, your current gas supplier will be able to tell you.

what if your bills are in someone else's name?

It is likely that the previous occupant of your property may have forgotten to inform their electricity and gas providers that they moved home. As soon as you know your move in date we strongly recommend that you inform your preferred supplier (or use Switchwise to choose a supplier for your new house).

We also recommend that you take meter readings and tell your electricity and gas suppliers. This will ensure that you do not end up being charged for power and gas used by the previous occupant before you moved in.
