Switchwise is a free service to Australian households where the choice of switching gas and electricity providers is available. There are no charges, no hidden fees and no catches to use the Switchwise service.
You need to be aware that there may be other costs imposed on you for switching suppliers in certain circumstances. We recommend you check your contract with your current supplier to ensure you are aware of any fees and charges that might apply for transferring your gas and electricity accounts to a new provider.
moving house
If you are moving into a new property, you may have to pay a connection fee for the new property and/ or a disconnection fee at your old property. This fee is charged by the distributor to your new supplier and then passed on to you.
fixed-term contracts
If you have a fixed-term contract with your existing supplier you may be liable for exit or termination fees if you cancel the contract before the end of the fixed-term period. If such fees apply we ask you to consider carefully the net savings to you from switching at this time. You might decide to hold off switching until the fixed term period ends with your current supplier.
security bonds
In this day and age it is surprising that a few suppliers might still require a security bond. Although this is not a cost as such, it will affect your cash flow. Security bonds are usually invoiced on your first bill and are only refunded or credited at the time you move house or change supplier.
